Bidong The Boat People

By AJ Black

The movie Bidong the Boat People is now in cinema. Thanks to Huey Hiew, I get to tag along to the movie premiere at e Curve on 1stMarch. The atmosphere that night was awesome. Actor and actresses were there with support from friends and the media.

The movie, directed by Yusof Kelana is based on true story about the boat people who fled Vietnam during the war in 1975 and ended up on the shores of Bidong Island in Terengganu. After the number of the boat people increased, the Malaysian government then had made the island as a refugee camp. Well, the story is a drama, so you can expect storytelling that has love and struggle in it.

Back to the premiere night, the lead actor Taufik Hanafi and his co-star Abby Nour shared their nervousness of the public acceptance during a chat. Both are sweet indeed. After the screening, I feel that the lead actress, the beautiful Irene Wong portrayed a convincing act, showing the suffer and anguish. The supporting cast didn’t let down either.

What I like about this movie is because of the history of the boat people that landed in Malaysia. I found out about the Bidong Island at the premier night itself
