Let me introduce you to Michelle Hee, the iron lady behind the BMIC Group of Companies.

Well, if corporate details didn’t catch your attention, imagine beautiful polished nails, with bling-bling or not, carefully manicured nails to match that presentable look. A sense of satisfaction? Yes. How about a wholesome complete look? Yup, that too. And that what drives Michelle to pick up the mantle when she started the business 10 years ago. To pursue her love in the beauty industry, she made a life changing decision to leave her career to start BMIC.

And we’re there on the 24th of April 2018, at BMIC Nail Spa Salon at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur to celebrate its 10th year anniversary. I was invited by June Yap, the agency owner for the models of this event. The instruction was simple, wear something purple or pink, the theme was Fruitastic Years. I knew I am up to a girlie event that day. There I met Michelle, the founder of BMIC, flanked by close friends and loyal customers. The event was lively, with socialites, artist and business associates all under one roof celebrating BMIC’s milestone.

I’ve mentioned pretty nails to you already. On that day, we’re also privileged to get first-hand information about Sun Leaf, a new product by BMIC. There was a special talk on The Importance of Digestion Health and Detoxification by Nutrition Consultant, Dr Chong Pei Nee. To mark the launching of Sun Leaf, there’s a catwalk show. Here’s where everybody went gaga over the shirtless male model and the well-toned female model, sashaying through the floor with a box of Sun Leaf in their hand. Our eyes were on the bodies. I secretly vowed that day to detox as it has a lot of health benefits.

Talking to Michelle about BMIC, you cannot dismiss the sense of excitement in her eyes. Even when she still has friends coming over to congratulate her, her eyes sparkle again when she spoke passionately about her journey in the business. Starting with offering facials, body treatment and make up services, she moved into bigger space as the business expanded.

When I asked why she wanted to do nails, she shared the inspiration about this niche market, where it quickly gained grasp with the Malaysian societies and working professionals. From nail spa and salon, BMIC has established and partnered itself with prestigious brand for launching of cars, fashion and jewellery with its Nail Party idea. I can imagine the luxe and pamper it represent. The rest is just history. BMIC also has BeeBee, another brainchild to caters to the younger crowd. It was launched in 2010 at the Fahrenheit 88 Shopping Mall followed by BMIC Nail Spa Salon at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur in 2012.

Beauty aside, BMIC has branched into two new industries – property and health products – through the establishment of BMIC Properties and Lun Heng Marketing.

Asking her about her clientele, she shared that they come from all walk of life. BMIC also carried permeable nail colour which is highly sought by Malay and the middle eastern customers as it is wudhu’ friendly. For the trend in nail art, she foresees Korean style will be staying around this year. So, you’ll be seeing more cutely adorned, bejewelled nails this year it seems.

To end the interview, Michelle shared her vision to have more outlets around the Klang Valley and to continue to offer healthier range of products for consumers.

Michelle’s success is indeed an inspiration to all, especially young girls. Her journey has taught us the importance of working hard, being independent and to be beautiful and confident. From the satisfaction that I saw from her loyal customer’s faces, the throng of friends who came to support the event and of course how BMIC celebrated their 10th anniversary, I am sure BMIC has done everything that is right to make us happy.

Congratulations to BMIC!
