“Over my dead body”.

Well, that’s a showstopper. Her heart’s bruised, sunk to a degree deeper than the Mariana trench. The warning came from her dear father, not wanting his precious daughter to do anything out of the norm, like joining a road rally calling for a total reform to the then government. As much as everyone agreed that something need to be done, but let it be shouldered by somebody else. To him, she’s nobody, but his daughter. Protective fatherly love that made her pour her hearts out on a post that went viral some time ago.

But, was this the end?

Fast forward, the much-determined daughter is now the candidate for Pakatan Harapan, to fend the Balakong state-seat byelection. It’s Wong Siew Ki, UPM graduate, turned to independent documentary filmmaker, before finding her true calling in politics.

Was it a natural progression? I find it hard to believe she has no interest in politics in the first place. But I could understand her reasons to join, as it is the actual platform where she can really make the difference.

I met her yesterday at the new election operation centre at Cheras Square. It was the night where everyone who is somebody from the Pakatan Harapan came down to show support, their unified front as the coalition selected by the people to form the government. Back to our bubbly candidate, Wong Siew Ki made many stops on her way into the office for the interview. Supporters, young and young at heart came down to congratulate her, for selfies and sharing stories. The area is not a new battlefield for her, having served nearby Seri Kembangan area before, but things has changed since Pakatan Harapan become the government.

On this matter, she shared plans to address the root cause, instead of temporary bandage for the water issue that frequents this constituency. She didn’t reveal her manifesto, but from what I can see, she has the expectation built high upon her taking up the late YB Eddie Ng’s legacy. The good thing is, she has full support from her team, and her supporters has already laid plan on how to campaign for her.

Well, it’s the new Malaysia, where things can become possible. We wish Wong Siew Ki all the best in the by-election.

It’s time to dip the finger with the indelible ink again for Balakong seat, no wonder the previous GE 14’s stain is hard to remove.
